Engaging Quality Work
We are engaged when we take pride in our work. Quality work enables students to learn what the school, parents, and community feel is important.
The school is located in the heart of Eastern Hancock County. It serves a population of 500 students in grades kindergarten through grade 5. It has a rich tradition of community and number of multi-generational families. EHES is a warm and caring place where student needs are our number one priority!
EHES staff of 21 classroom teachers strive to create a child centered learning environment while providing a rich and challenging academic program. In addition, we have a specials team of professionals that provide instruction in music, art, and physical education. EHES teaching staff also includes a media specialist, speech therapist, a teacher of the learning disabled, Literacy and Math Coaches, as well as a full time counselor.
At EHES we use data to drive our instruction. NWEA testing is done three times a year. This data combined with the State ISTEP scores is used by staff to meet the needs of our students. Teachers use small groups and collaboration to help students achieve their academic goals. The Gentry model is used for placement of students into classes. This model, created by Dr. Marcia Gentry, helps teachers better differentiate their instruction by shortening the gap of educational achievement in the classroom. We have found this to be a highly effective way of instructing students. Our Read 180 and Fast Math programs are used to help remediate students who are struggling in reading and math. DIBLES testing is also done to progress monitor reading fluency. Accelerated Reader is used to help build comprehension skills and foster a love of reading.
